Abstract:
Horizon-wise soil samples collected from eight pedons from Khajipalem revenue village, Guntur district, A.P. were analysed for their chemical composition. The study revealed that high silica content was observed in coarse textured soils than in fine textured soils whereas sesquioxides followed a reverse trend. The molar ratios and concentrations exhibited the dominance of silica over sesquioxides in all the soils. The order of other elements was found to be CaO> MgO₂>NaO₂> K₂O>N>P₂O₅>MnO₂>CuO>ZnO in soils represented by majority of the pedons. The coarse textured soils registered higher SiO₂ / R₂O₃, SiO₂ / Al₂O₃ and SiO₂ / Fe₂O₃ ratios than fine textured soils.
