Application of unsaturated fatty acids in diseases prevention: A review

Abstract:
Fat gives energy to human body and it is one of the major sources of energy with 37 KJ per gram. Our body requires fatty acids to perform different functions. We know that there are different health benefits for different fatty acids. There are two types fatty present in the body (Essential and Non-essential fatty acids). There are fatty acids that cannot be synthesized directly. These are known as essential fatty acids and they are directly taken from food products. These acids have roles in preventing various diseases. It is always recommended to intake good sources of these acids with will meet the sufficient requirements of the body. These acids are mainly present in oil-rich fish, which is a part of our diet. Unsaturated fatty acid is associated with diseases like Foetal and infant development, cancer, cardiovascular diseases, diabetes. Apart from this, there are many other diseases apart from these as well although the evidence is not conclusive yet. This is the area which is attracted by many people. As the health concern is not an individual topic.
The unsaturated fatty acids are also related with the different risk of reducing the development of various cancers such as cancer of the breast, colon and prostate. Even though in present time the level of evidence is not that sufficient given by the authoritative bodies including World Health Organization and department of health. The fatty acid composition of cell membranes can be reduced by the usage of both n-3 and n-6.
