Effect of plant growth regulators and micronutrients on quality of strawberry (Fragaria x ananassa Dutch.) cv. Chandler

Abstract:
The experiment entitled “Effect of Plant Growth Regulators and Micronutrients on Quality of Strawberry (Fragaria x ananassa Dutch.) cv. Chandler” was conducted at the Central Research Farm, Department of Horticulture, Sam Higginbottom University of Agriculture, Technology & Sciences, Prayagraj, (U.P.)- 211007 during the year 2015-16 and 2016-2017. The Strawberry (Fragaria x ananassa Dutch.) crop in Rosaceae family with Chandler variety was grown with each comprising of treatments replicated thrice. Source of variables were NAA (20ppm); GA3 (75 ppm); BA (benzyl adenine) (20ppm); Salicylic acid (50ppm); Boric acid (0.4%); Zinc sulphate (0.4%) and combination of them with control treatment taken as nineteen treatments. The experiment was laid out according to randomized block design (RBD) by randomizing treatments in each replication. As far as the quality of fruit is concerned, application of different treatment of plant growth regulators and micronutrient enhanced the TSS(0Brix), Ascorbic acid (mg/100g), Sugar content (%), pH of the fruit juice and Total acidity (%) and specific gravity were significantly increased by different treatments of plant growth regulators and micronutrient at all successive stage. Maximum TSS (13.42 and 13.990brix), ascorbic acid (42.56 and 42.56 mg/ 100 g), sugar content (%) (7.02 and 7.20%), pH of the fruit juice (4.73 and 4.89) and total acidity (%) (0.57 and 0.58%) and specific gravity (1.42 and 1.52) were recorded in successive year in T17 (GA3 75ppm+ Zinc sulphate 0.4% + Boric acid 0.4%) and minimum quality were observed in T1.
