Abstract:
A simple rapid and precise reverse phase high performance liquid chromatographic method has been developed for the quantitative determination of Diosgenin from the extract of dried powder of Dioscorea bulbifera Linn. Tubers. Chromatographic analysis was carried out on Inertsil ODS-3V-C18 (25cm x 4.6 mm i.d., 5 um) with a mobile phase of mixture of water and methanol in the volume ratio of 95:5, at a flow rate of 1.0 mL min -1. Quantitation was performed using a UV – visible detector at 211 nm. Good linearity was obtained over the range of 1.00 ug/cm3 to 12.00 ug/cm3 for Diosgenin.
