Abstract:
Beekeeping, has long been recognized as a sustainable and profitable enterprise. However, despite its potential benefits, there are various constraints that hinder its widespread adoption. This paper aims to investigate and analyse the constraints faced by individuals and communities in adopting beekeeping as a viable enterprise. The study employs a mixed-methods approach, combining surveys, interviews, and case studies to gather comprehensive data. The analysis indicates that a significant majority of respondents, accounting for 71.53% of the total, are male, underscoring a higher level of male participation. The data regarding perception towards adoption of beekeeping as an enterprise revealed that majority of the respondents (92.31%) showed interest in adopting beekeeping as an occupation. Also, 13.85 percent of respondents gave negative response toward adoption of beekeeping as an occupation. Regarding post-harvest challenges, a substantial percentage of beekeepers, comprising 40.77%, 30.00%, and 29.33%, highlighted the lack of honey processing units, storage issues, and problems related to transportation, respectively.
