Constraints perceived in adopting scientific cattle management practices among rural women in Western Rajasthan

Abstract:
The present study was conducted to identify and assess the constraints perceived by rural women during scientific management of their cattle in the Western Rajasthan. These rural women reared mainly cattle for their livelihood. The study was conducted on 240 rural women selected form 12 villages of three districts i.e. Jodhpur, Pali and Barmer, which are situated in the Western of Rajasthan. The findings of the study revealed that majority of rural women reported the low production status of their cow (85.83%), low price of milk (81.25%), high cost of feed/ fodder (78.75%), lack of knowledge about balance feeding (75%), high cost of treatment (73.33%), lack of knowledge about preservation of green fodder (70.83%), lack of knowledge about cattle diseases and their control measures (70%), repeat breeding (66.25%), lack of knowledge about vaccination and non-availability of animal health service provider in the village (60.41%) and lack of knowledge about veterinary first aid (57.5%) as the major constraints perceived by them during rearing of their cattle.
