Abstract: In the context of Indian agriculture, small and marginal farmers constitute 87% of the total household. Most farmers lack access to critical inputs and consumer market, forcing them to sell their produce to the numerous intermediaries operating in the market. This reduces their profit margin, making the farming business, in most cases a non-viable one. FPOs can play an important role by mobilizing and organizing them for better market access, higher bargaining power, and higher price to their produce, better information dissemination. More than 15000 FPOs have already been formed across the nation.
