Abstract:
Chhattisgarh has been predominantly an agricultural state with paddy as its principal crop. Another crop of interest in Chhattisgarh is MUSHROOMS. The present study focuses on the oyster mushroom (Pleurotus spp.) with the estimation of simultaneous equations models at their equilibrium point for the markets of Raipur, Durg and Dhamtari districts of Chhattisgarh. This study was based on the primary data, using questionnaires for producers, wholesalers and consumers of oyster mushroom (Pleurotus spp.). At the equilibrium point of the demand and supply among the three simultaneous equations models estimated, Model I was found to be best, where the substitute commodity to oyster mushroom (Pleurotus spp.) was preferred as soybean among the general consumers, whereas Model II was found to be suitable for only those consumers who had their disposable income more than those of the general consumers and who preferred chicken as their substitute to oyster mushroom (Pleurotus spp.).
