Constraints and suggestions about forward linkage activities by groundnut growers of Chitradurga district of Karnataka

Abstract:
Groundnut is commonly known as the poor man’s nut. It is usually consumed in most of the countries after roasting or boiling, and also processed into different forms. Post-harvest losses in groundnut ranges between 20-35 per cent of the production in India and severe damage are common during long-term storage situations. Thus, the need is to increase yield and area under groundnut, further appropriate processing, value addition and marketing of groundnut yields maximum profit and provides entrepreneurial opportunities to the farmers and This research delves into the challenges faced by groundnut growers in the context of forward linkage activities and seeks to provide insightful suggestions for overcoming these constraints. The results of the study indicated with respect to constraints faced by farmers about Forward linkage activities in groundnut, the majority (76.25%) of respondents expressed complex procedure to get credit facilities to establish small and micro industries, followed by (74.38%) expressed Unaware about quality standards of preparation of value added products as their constraint. Some of the suggestions given by groundnut growers were supply machineries at subsidised rates for processing and Preparation of value added products. Forward linkage activities, encompassing aspects such as market access, technological adoption, and value addition, are integral for enhancing the profitability and sustainability of groundnut cultivation.
