Background: There is no doubt that antibiotics have played a revolutionary role in healthcare internationally. From the first time that the antibiotics were discovered, many deaths were delayed, but unfortunately, the continuous use of it led to the production of new bacteria with resistant ability. Objective: The study subjected to identify the activity of the overuse and inappropriate use of antibiotics in the study area.
Methodology: The study in Tikrit City (private doctors' clinics) involved collecting 100 samples from various sources from December to March in 2022, the samples were incubated in various culture media for growth and identification.
Results: 100 bacterial isolates were obtained from samples. Seven pathogen isolates were found. The results also showed that most of bacterial species were resistant to the used antibiotics because of either prescribing antibiotics when they are not needed or prescribing a broad-spectrum antibiotic when a narrow-spectrum one is needed.
Conclusions: Antibiotic use must be monitored as a strategy to improve antibiotic use among patients, control antibiotic resistance, and reduce harm to patients and antibiotic developers.
