Fishing mortality and natural mortality of Lates calcarifer in Chilika lagoon, East coast of India

Abstract:
The fish species were collected randomly from Chilika lagoon at monthly intervals for the period from January, 2024 to December, 2024.The natural mortality, fishing mortality and total mortality of Lates calcariferwere estimated as 1.25/yr, 0.29/yr and 1.54/yr respectively. The M/K values lies within the range of 1.0 to 2.5 suggesting reasonability in the study of natural mortality. The value of Z/K is found to be 2.91 indicated that the stock was mortality dominated during the sampling period.
