Abstract:
In this study, 8 parents of tomato were selected and crossed in half diallel pattern to produce 28 F1 hybrids. This experiment was conducted at South Instructional farm of School of Agricultural Sciences, Karunya Institute of Technology and Sciences, Coimbatore. This study was undertaken with the aim of producing better F1 hybrids which can be used in future breeding programs. Relative heterosis, heterobeltiosis and standard heterosis were calculated for the traits, days to flowering, Plant height, Number of fruits per cluster, Number of fruits per plant, Average fruit weight, and Yield with Kashi Amman as check variety. The parents, Bengallcot, Kaziranga local, Pusa Ruby, Kashi Adarsh and Kashi Amman were selected for promising higher heterosis. Considerable amount of relative heterosis and heterobeltiosis were found in all traits with the exception of very few numbers of positive heterosis in yield. The final result showed the hybrids Bengallcot x Kashi Adarsh, Kaziranga local x Kashi Adarsh, Kaziranga local x kashi Amman, and Thirupur -2 x Madanapalle local to be the better choices for yield and yield attributing paramters.
