Abstract:
A wide range of variability, higher heritability values and genetic advance was observed for all the traits in both the crosses for F2 and F3 generations.
The data on ten quantitative characters were used for studding transgressive segregation in both the crosses for F2 and F3 generations. Mean, standard deviation was calculated to determine the proportion of transgressive segregants for characters under investigation.
It was observed that the frequency and percent transgressive segregants for all the characters under study in both the crosses were decreased from F2 to F3 generation indicating that the population approaches towards homologous condition.
It was observed that the percent incidence of diseases, pest and virus WMV-1 of segregating population in both the crosses for F2 and F3 generations were very less so that they were found highly resistant to virus WMV-1 i.e. desirable segregants observed in both the crosses were highly resistant to watermelon mosaic virus (WMV-1).
