A case study of clinical mastitis in dairy cattle

Abstract:
Three bovine HF cattle aged around 4-5 years were presented with the history of discoloration in the milk with swollen udder. Clinical examination revealed all three animals having increased body temperature with swollen udder and watery yellowish milk from the affected quarter. Milk was collected from the affected quarter and subjected for CMT and ABST. Based on the laboratory and clinical examination the cases were diagnosed as clinical mastitis. All three animals affected quarter samples were subjected for ABST and found sensitive for enrofloxacin and all three showed resistances for Amoxicillin, penicillin, ampicillin. California mastitis test showed positive (++++) for mastitis. All the animal were treated with the parenteral and systemic antibiotics, analgesics and supplemented with Citron M© for five days continuously, all three animals showed complete recovery and improvement in the milk yield.
