Abstract:Efforts were made to standardize sieve size for different cultivars of chickpea for maximum seed recovery and seed quality values. The experiments were carried out at Seed Technology Research Unit, Dr. PDKV, Akola (MS) during 2022-23. The recent variety of chickpea (PDKV Kanchan) which are cultivated in Maharashtra State were selected study. The unprocessed seed of each cultivars were graded by recommended sieves, two sieves above the recommended sieve and two sieves below the recommended sieve. The seed collected from each sieve were tested for seed quality parameters, like recovery (%), germination (%), physical purity (%), seedling length, vigour index and test weight.
It is revealed that the seed recovery was significantly increased with decreased in sieve size from 8.0mm to 5.0mm. For grading of chickpea (PDKV Kanchan), sieve of 6.0mm is recorded 91.9% recovery and 90.7% germination above the MSCS level. The physical purity percentage was ranged from 95.3% to 70.3%. Seedling vigour index is varied with sieve size in Chickpea. The test weight of seed was significantly decreased from 213.0g to 77.9 g as screen size decreased from 7.0 to 5.0 mm respectively. The 6.0 mm (r) sieve recorded good seed recovery and found to be better by considering higher seed quality parameters.
