Abstract:
During June 2021 - August 2021, a field study was carried out on farmer's field in M. Thathanoor village, Salem district, Tamil Nadu, using greengram variety CO 6 as a test crop to investigate the effect of foliar application of zinc, iron, and NAA on soil fertility and chemical nutrition of greengram (Vigna radiata L.). The test soil had a sandy loam texture and was taxonomically identified as Typic haplustalfs in Belur series with a pH of 7.07, EC of 0.34 dS m-1 and medium OC (6.5 g kg-1). Low levels of KMnO4-N (177.2 kg ha-1), medium levels of Olsen-P (18.1 kg ha-1) and NH4OAc-K (139.5 kg ha-1) were found in the test soil. In addition, test soil had low levels of available Zn (0.49 mg kg-1) and Fe (2.67 mg kg-1). The trial used a randomized block design with eight treatments and three replications. The combination of ZnSO4 @ 0.50 percent + FeSO4 @ 0.50 percent + NAA @ 40 ppm (T8) produced the significantly higher results for nutrient absorption by haulm - nitrogen (42.75 kg ha-1), (6.05 kg ha-1), potassium (15.33 kg ha-1), zinc (61.32 g ha-1) , iron (125.05 g ha-1) and by seed - nitrogen (41.6 kg ha-1), phosphorus (2.88 kg ha-1), potassium (7.3 kg ha-1), zinc (29.2 g ha-1), iron (59.57 g ha-1) during the harvest stage.
Similarly, the combination of ZnSO4 @ 0.50 percent + FeSO4 @ 0.50 percent + NAA @ 40 ppm (T8) recorded the maximum soil nutrient availability [nitrogen (151.93 kg ha-1), phosphorus (16.86 kg ha-1), potassium (130.36 kg ha-1), zinc (0.179 mg kg-1) and iron (2.078 mg kg-1)] at harvest stage. The experimental findings showed that the combination application of zinc, iron, and NAA considerably enhanced the soil nutrient availability and improved the nutrient uptake of seed and haulm in comparison to the control (water spray).
