Abstract:
The present study was undertaken to investigate the effect of aqueous extract of leaves of Clerodendrum colebrookianum on CNS activities in rats. For this purpose, two doses of the aqueous leaf extract (100 and 300 mg/kg body weight), PO, were considered. Basically, three animal models namely “open field test,” “hole cross test” and “pentobarbitone induced hypnotic” tests were performed. The extract showed significant (p<0.05) depression activity which was measured by “open field test” and “hole cross test.” Again, the extract could significantly (p<0.01) increase the CNS depression activity of pentobarbitone as recorded by early induction of loss of righting reflex and increase in the sleeping time as compared to control.
