Abstract:
Fourteen varieties collected from G.B. Pant University of Agriculture and Technology, Uttarakhand and Regional Research Station, Bowali, India were evaluated for different qualitative and quantitative characters at Horticultural and Forestry Research Station, Kodaikanal of the upper pulney hills of Tamil Nadu. The genotypes showed variation for majority of the studied traits. The maximum plant height, canopy spread and leaf area index was recorded in the variety ‘Camarosa’ (30.45 cm, 22.35 cm and 36.50 cm2, respectively). Significantly, maximum fruit length(5.20 cm),fruit diameter (4.04 cm), fresh fruit weight (51.48 g), number of fruits per plant (24.65), dry fruit weight (48.39 g),fruit yield per plant (1268.98 g) and volume of fruit (61.14 ml)was registered in the variety ‘Nabila’. The maximum titrable acidity, reducing sugars, total sugars, ascorbic acid and TSS was also recorded in ‘Nabila’ with 0.70%, 3.63%, 4.55%, 73.60 mg/100 g fruit, 21.10° brix respectively. The maximum shelf life recorded among the varieties was two days and minimum shelf life was one day.
