Welfare status of crossbred dairy cattle in Khasi and Jaintia Hill Districts of Meghalaya

Abstract:
A study was conducted on welfare status of crossbred dairy cattle in Khasi and Jaintia Hill districts of Meghalaya. The main aim of the study was to gather information regarding the Welfare status of crossbred dairy cattle practices by the farmers in the two districts. The interview schedule was developed and the data was collected randomly from two districts, Khasi hill (60 farmers) and Jaintia hill (60 farmers). The data collected were component A; housing and other facilities, component B: feeds and feeding practices and component C: animal health, performance and behaviour. The software used for analysis were IBM SPSS Statistics Version 26 and Microsoft Excel for Microsoft 365 Version 2406). The study concluded that welfare status of all three categories of farmer collected from three different components (A, B and C) were found to be similar or non-significant. Therefore, the overall mean welfare ranking of most farmers (54.60%) were average and 45.40 per cent were considered as good.
