Abstract:
The present study was carried out to know the performance of hybrids and their parents for the growth and yield characters in tomato. Among the parents used for investigation Punjab Chhuhara (T1), Pant T-3 (T2) and LE-56 (L2) were high yielding of 2.00, 1.87 and 1.87 kg per plant, respectively. The promising hybrids LE-56 x Pant T-3 (L2 X T2), LE-56 X Pusa Gaurav (L2 X T3) and LE-64 x Punjab Chhuhara (L4 x T1) recorded high yield of 2.93, 2.80 and 2.75 kg per plant, respectively over the three commercial checks. The hybrid (L2 X T2) was most promising for various traits which contribute to average fruit weight and highest fruit yield per plant. The best performing parents can be used for further breeding programmes and hybrids could be exploited for cultivation.
