Abstract:
A field experiment was conducted at Navsari Agricultural University, Navsari, Gujarat to study the the effect of planting methods, spacing and intercrops on sugarcane during the years of 2015-16 and 2016-17. The experiment was laid out in split plot design (SPD) with total 16 treatmentscombination with three replications. Periodical examination of data shows that sugarcane seedling raised in nursery tray (30 days old) planted at spacing of 120 cm x 30 cm with intercropping of onion and green gram recorded significantly higher dry matter accumulation due to better availability of the resources and less competition compared to other treatments. Dry matter accumulation directly responsible for growth rate but has no or slight significant effect on leaf area index, absolute growth rate and relative growth rate.
