Abstract:
The present study was conducted at Nursery of Forestry Department, CCS Haryana Agricultural University during 2019. Melia composita Willd. Belongs to family Meliaceae. The natural germination through seeds is less than 25%. So there is need to find out appropriate pre-sowing treatment. Due to its rapid growth, clear bole, and local market for its wood, Burma dek has attracted a lot of interest for growing under agroforestry plantations. The seeds were collected from research area of Forestry Department Hisar and subjected to 5 pre-sowing treatments viz., normal water soaking (24, 48 and 72 hr), conc. H2SO4 (5, 10 and 15 min.), cow dung slurry (5, 10 and 15 days), boiling water (5, 10 and 15 min.), mechanical scarification + GA3 (100 ppm) (8, 16 and 24 hr). During nursery conditions, maximum germination (42.00%) and speed of germination (15.87) were recorded in concentrated H2SO4 treatment at 15 minute, whereas maximum root length (26.02 cm), shoot length (90.20 cm), root: shoot ratio (0.383), seedling fresh weight (7.20 g), seedling dry weight (3.46 g), collar diameter (13.64) were recorded maximum in mechanical scarification + GA3 (100 ppm) at 24 hr.
