Abstract:
The present investigation carried out to assess the nature of gene action for grain yield and its contributing characters under three different environmental conditions using eight diverse barley parents along with their 28F1. The scattering of array points indicated the existence of genetic diversity among the parents for most of the traits. An overall appraisal revealed that among the parents, HUB242 and BH959 each E1, E2, and E3 environment, UPB1059 in E2, RD2904 in E2, RD2909 and DWR137 in E3 having close to origin had more frequency of dominant gene in days to 50% flowering. The genotypes UPB1059 in E1 and E2, BH959 in E1, and E3, HUB242 in E2 have close to point of origin, have high frequency for dominance gene in days to maturity. UPB1059 in E1 and E2, BH959 in E1 and E3, HUB242 in E2 have near to the point of origin, had high frequency of dominant genes for plant height. UPB1059 in E1, HUB242 in E2, DWR143 in E3 having dominant genes for number of effective tiller per plant. DWR137 in all the environments, UPB1059 in E1 and BH902 in E3 had dominant genes for flag leaf area. BH959 in all environments and RD2904 in E3 showed dominant genes for peduncle length. In spike length the parent BH902 in E1 and E2, HUB242 in E2 dominant genes action. In number of spikelets per spike HUB242 in each environment, BH959 in E1 and RD2909 in E2 had dominant genes. The parent BH902 in E1 and E2, DWR143 in E2 and E3, BH959 in E1 of dominant gene action for expression of number of grain per spike. The genotype HUB242, in all the environment, DWR143inE2and E3, BH902 in E1 had depicted dominant of test weight. HUB242 in all the environments, BH902, UPB1059 and BH959 in E1, RD2904, UPB1059 and BH959 in E2, BH02 and RD2909 in E3 dominant genes for manifestation of harvest index. BH902, HUB242 and BH959 in E1, UPB1059 and DWR143 both in E2 and E3 having close to the point of origin, registered high frequency of dominant genes expression of grain yield per plant, relatively maximum dominant genes. These parents may be used in crossing programme for the improvement of different yield components for tangible advancement of barley.
