Abstract:
A field study was conducted at horticulture field, Banda University of Agriculture & Technology, Banda during 2021-22 to study the pruning intensities and time of pruning in phalsa under Bundelkhand region of Uttar Pradesh. The experiment was laid out in a Randomized Block Design in a Factorial with 12 treatments and three replications. The treatments on different time of pruning (pruning time 1st (D1), 2nd (D2), 3rd (D3), 4th (D4) week of January) and different intensities of pruning (P1:10cm, P2:20cm and P3: 30cm from ground level) were imposed on five year old phalsa plant. Results revealed that the maximum sprouting (30.16) was recorded with 10 cm (D1) pruning. Plant height (1.88), branches per plant (75.08), leaves per plant (29.25), spread (E-W) and (N-S) (1.37), fruit cluster per plant(1446.41), fruit per cluster (10.07), fruit weight (4.54), fruit breadth (0.97), fruit length (1.12), TSS (22.75) and quality parameters were recorded with P2 (20 cm) pruning. Flowering (27.50), fruit setting (10.75), titratable acidity (2.46) was recorded with 30 cm (D4) pruning. Maximum fruit yield (0.80) was recorded at 20 cm pruning (P2) performed in 1st week in January (D1). Therefore, on the basis of results, pruning at 20 cm from ground level in the 1st week of January found best for highest yield and fruit quality.
