Abstract:
The present work “The ultrastructure of oesophageal submucosal glands in pig in adult pig (Sus scrofa)” was carried out in adult, apparently healthy Large White Yorkshire cross bred pigs (SVVU-T-17 Breed). The submucosal glands of the oesophagus were seromucous glands. Ultrastructurally mucous acinar cells showed the numerous secretory granules with different electron densities and with different sizes while serous acinus showed the numerous electron dense secretory granules. Serous acinar cells showed intercellular canaliculi between them and a centrally located prominent lumen with several microvilli. Both the mucous and serous acini were surrounded by myoepithelial cells which showed an oval nucleus with evenly distributed euchromatin and heterochromatin. The intralobar duct showed cells with prominent centrally located nuclei, electron dense secretory granules, a greater number of mitochondria, polyribosomes and endoplasmic reticulum with desmosomes and tight junctions between them.
