Abstract:
Guava hybridization programme were carried out at Horticulture Research Centre of Govind Ballabh Pant University of Agriculture and Technology, Pantnagar during 2019-20 to study the performance on growth of seedlings of parents and F1 hybrids. In case plant height maximum was recorded in seedlings of Red Fleshed × L-49 and minimum was notified in Hisar Surkha at all three stages. At 90 days after planting (DAP) highest value for plant girth was observed in KG-1 Guava × Local Germplasm (14.04 mm) and least (11.91 mm) in Sangareddy. Significantly higher values for internodal length was found in Sangareddy and least internodal length was noted in Hisar Surkha at all three stages. Highest number of internodes and leaves (25.2 and 69.00) in Red Fleshed × Local Germplasm and least value for the same traits was recorded in Sangareddy (27.0 and 45.00) at 90 days after planting. Minimum value for leaf blade length was observed in Sangareddy and for width it recorded in Hisar Surkha while maximum value of leaf blade length and width was noted in Hisar Safeda × L-49 respectively at 30, 60 and 90 days after planting. Highest leaf blade length to width ratio was recorded in seedlings of Lalit (2.53, 2.48 and 2.43 cm), However minimum in Hisar Surkha × L-49, Sangareddy × L-49 in each (1.94, 1.87 and 1.85cm) at all thee growth stages. At 90 DAP maximum mean leaf area was recorded in Hisar Safeda × L-49 (100.48 cm2) while least value was recorded in Local Germplasm (42.60 cm2). Significantly, maximum chlorophyll content was recoded in plants of Local Germplasm (448.4) and minimum chlorophyll content was found in Sangareddy × L-49 (242.2).
