Assessing knowledge on reproductive health among rural women and associated factors

Abstract:
Reproductive health plays a significant role in a woman’s life. Women of child bearing age group in developing countries suffer ill health due to lack of knowledge on reproductive health issues. A study on ‘Assessing Knowledge on Reproductive health among rural women and associated factors’ was carried out in University of Agricultural Sciences, Dharwad, Karnataka with an objective to assess the knowledge regarding reproductive health among rural women and the associated socio-demographic factors. Through survey 300 women were selected from eight villages of two thalukas of Dharwad district. Reproductive health knowledge questionnaire developed by PJTSAU, Hyderabad was used to assess knowledge level. Women were interviewed to gather information on selected variables. Results of the study indicated that more than half (56%) of rural women tend to had average level of reproductive health knowledge followed by good (33%) and poor (11%). Further results showed that among selected socio-demographic variable, age, education, occupation and caste found to have significant influence on reproductive health knowledge level of rural women. So, it necessitates reproductive health knowledge empowerment for women especially in rural areas through different means.
