Dairy entrepreneurship scenario in Gujarat state

Abstract:
India is the world’s largest milk producing country. Its milk Production for the year 2021was around 210 million tonnes which is around 21% of the world milk production. The leading milk producing states are – Uttar Pradesh, Andhra Pradesh, Madhya Pradesh, Rajasthan and Gujarat. The NDDB has already implemented the National Dairy Plan (NDP-I), Dairy Entrepreneurship Development Schemes, Dairy Infrastructure Development scheme (DIDF), AHIDF etc. The entire value chain provides excellent entrepreneurial opportunities for any potential dairy entrepreneur. Dairy is an important sector in the country. In the year 2020-21 the milk production reached to around 210 million tonnes and the per capita availability is more than 427 gm/day. With this achievements along with developments in modern dairy farming sector, the proliferation of ICT in the country and the growing demand of milk and milk products, the dairy sector seems to provide good lucrative opportunity for entrepreneurship. This research study was carried out with the objective “To explore the present Dairy Entrepreneurship Scenario in Gujarat State” and was based on secondary data. The findings of the study were - dairy value chain. The state is blessed to have many important entrepreneurship supporting schemes available from the state government, central government, and even the dairy cooperatives. The state is also fortunate to have many National level Dairy organisations, Dairy Education Institutes, Training centres and other institutional Infrastructure. With this kind of positive prevailing scenario, it would be easily possible to capitalize on the entrepreneurial opportunities emerging in the sector. However, the issues like- Establishing incubation centres for Motivating potential dairy entrepreneurs, Popularizing the schemes among stakeholders (Especially the cooperative dairies can put the details of the entrepreneurship support schemes on the websites), Creating awareness among potential beneficiaries, need to be addressed promptly.
