Socio-economic profile of sugarcane farmers of Basti district

Abstract:
Sugarcane is the world's largest sugar source (80%) and has a high position as a cash crop. For the processing of white sugar, brown sugar (khandsari) and gur or jaggery, sugar juice is used. it indicates that the largest numbers of sugarcane growers (54.17%) were middle-aged (36 to 55 years) and only 10.83 percent were young (up to 35 years) and 35.00 percent of sugarcane growers were old age. The data also indicates that 24.16 percent of sugarcane growers were studied up to primary school,22.50 percent were studied up to College and above, and 13.34 percent of the sugarcane growers were illiterate, while only 11.66 percent were educated up to middle school.
