Effect of sowing time, nitrogen level and cutting on leaf size parameters in Beet leaf (Beta vulgaris var. bengalensis)

Abstract:
A field study to evaluate the effects of sowing time, nitrogen level and leaf cutting on the leaf size of beet leaf (Beta Vulgaris var. bengalensis was conducted at Vegetable Research Farm of Chaudhary Charan Singh Haryana Agricultural University, Hisar in the winter of 2018-19. The treatment comprises three dates of sowing, three doses of nitrogen and three levels of leaf cutting. The results revealed that the crop was sown on 22nd October with the combination of 80 kg N/ha with one leaf cutting had the highest value of leaf length, leaf width and petiole length at 40 days after sowing, which was significantly higher than other treatments. Palak is a leafy vegetable, yields higher with larger leaf size.
