Abstract:
Maize is an important crop with global importance. Eight inbred lines were mated in half diallel mating design for developing 28 hybrids. Among these parents, 4 were found to be resistant to charcoal rot, one was moderately resistant, one was moderately susceptible while, two parents were highly susceptible. Different combinations of crosses were affected during the investigation which included resistant × resistant, resistant × moderately resistant, resistant × susceptible, resistant × moderately susceptible, moderately resistant × susceptible, moderately susceptible × susceptible and susceptible × susceptible types. All the seven hybrids were found resistant when both the parents were resistant. The hybrids exhibited highly susceptible reaction when the crosses were done between moderately susceptible and susceptible parents.
