Abstract:
Wheat is important Rabi crop which is cultivated in semi and semi-arid regions. The present experiment was carried out during Rabi 2019-20 in a randomized block design (RBD) with 18 wheat genotypes to assess the correlation and path coefficient analysis for yield and yield associated traits. The data were recorded on days to 50 % flowering, plant height, flag leaf length, number of productive tillers per square meter, peduncle length, spike length, spike weight, number of spikelets per spike, number of grains per spike, 1000 grain weight, days to maturity, biological yield, harvest index and grain yield. Grain yield was highly significantly and positively correlated with number of productive tillers per square meter, spike weight, number of grains per spike, 1000 grain weight, days to maturity, biological yield, and harvest index indicating dependence of grain yield on these characters. In path coefficient analysis, plant height, flag leaf length, number of productive tillers per square meter, peduncle length, number of spikelets per spike, number of grains per spike, 1000 grain weight, biological yield, and harvest index, revealed positive direct effect on grain yield. This suggested that selection for these characters will help in isolating high yielding genotypes.
