Abstract:
An experiment was conducted to investigate yield and quality traits in germplasms of sesamum, in order to generate information regarding the extent of genetic variability, heritability and genetic advance as percent mean. The experiment was laid out during kharif 2015 in 10×10 simple lattice design with two replications. The analysis of variance revealed highly significant differences among the genotypes in respect of all the traits thereby indicating presence of wide genetic diversity. Wide range for all the characters showed that there is sufficient amount of variability is presented in the studied traits. Phenotypic coefficient of variability was higher than the genotypic coefficient of variability for all the characters but the difference is narrow, indicating that the little influence of environment on the characters. Further, high estimates of heritability and genetic gain were recorded for most of the characters studied. This, suggests that straight selection for these traits may bring worthwhile improvement in identifying superior germplasms in sesamum.
