Abstract:
The present investigation entitled “Varietal evaluation of Chilli (Capsicum annuum) under Prayagraj agro-climatic conditions” was carried out at Vegetable Research Farm, Department of Horticulture, SHUATS, Prayagraj (U.P.) during Rabi season of 2020 - 2021, for evaluation of different hybrids and its component traits of 14 hybrids, with three replications in Randomized Block Design (RBD). Analysis of variance in the present investigation indicated that the hybrids evaluated differed significantly among all the treatment for all the character traits. For parameters relating to growth, the minimum days to flowering (21.8) was found for the hybrid T₇ 2020 IET-2 while the maximum plant height (39.4 cm) was recorded in the hybrid T₅ 2019/AVT-6. For plant girth, chilli hybrid T₁ 2019/AVT-1 was recorded maximum with 10.1 mm. Maximum Chlorophyll content (60.2) was recorded in the hybrid T₄ 2019/AVT-4. Maximum fruit length (12.1 cm) was recorded in the hybrid T₆ IET 2020-1 and maximum fruit weight (5.9g) and fruit girth (13mm) was recorded in the hybrid T₈ IET 2020-3. In terms of quality, maximum TSS (9.3) and vitamin C content (172.42mg) was in TI 2019/AVT-1. In yield parameters, maximum no. of fruits per plant (23) and maximum yield (49 q/ha) was recorded in the hybrid T₁ 2019/AVT-1. Based on the results obtained, it was concluded that the chilli hybrid ‘2019/AVT-1’ is the most desirable hybrid for proper growth and yield under Prayagraj agro-climatic conditions.
