Abstract:
An experiment was carried out on java tea to study the relationship between the Sinensetin content and the stage of harvest / leaf maturity among three different stages of leaves: young tip leaves, middle leaves and basal / mature leaves. HPTLC analysis reported that the young tip leaves significantly differed with higher Sinensetin content of 106.7 mg/ ml as compared to that of middle (76.81 mg / ml) and basal leaves studied. Results displayed that the harvest stage affected the concentration of the bioactive compounds present; therefore, suitable stage of harvest/ maturity should be adopted to enhance the medicinal properties of the plant.
