Abstract:
In the present study, nine genotypes of taro were evaluated at Research cum Instruction Farm, S.G. College of Agriculture and Research Station, (IGKV) Jagdalpur, Bastar (C.G.) during kharif, 2021-22 in randomized block design (RBD) with three replications. Observation recorded for 32 morphological characters as per IPGRI descriptor. Out of thirty-two characters, twenty-four were visually assessed and remain eight characters were measure. Among the different traits assessed, petiole length, leaf length, leaf width, petiole junction pattern, cross-section of lower part of petiole, corm skin surface, corm branching showed 100% frequency, a higher frequency was also observed for plant type erect (66.66%), plant span medium (66.66%), plant height medium (88.88%), no. of leaves per plant (66.66%), leaf blade colour green (66.66%), petiole junction colour Yellow (66.66%), leaf main vein colour green (66.66%) and vein pattern “Y” shape (88.88%), corm flesh colour (77.77%). This study is of great significance in determining the distinctiveness, uniformity, and stability of various taro genotypes.
