Abstract:
Heterotic groupings of parental lines and identification of their combining ability aid in the selection of parents and breeding strategies for effective sorghum hybrid development. Eleven parents and 55 F1 hybrids were studied for combining ability for grain yield through diallel analysis and to determine heterotic patterns among them rabi-2019. GCA and SCA effects were found to be significant for grain yield (GY). The genotypes classified into two heterotic groups. Group –A (DSMR-8) comprised of BJV 44, IS 4515, IS 4698 and IS 22720 with restoring ability while Group-B (PKV Kranti) comprised of M35-1, IS 2312, IS 28614 and IS 27887 carrier of maintainer genes. From these two groups, two populations can be developed through recurrent selection and from them the improved and potential restorers (R) and productive and potential ‘B’ (maintainers) on maldandi source of male sterility can be developed.
