Abstract:
A diallel cross made among the nine rice genotypes to produce 36 F1 (excluding reciprocals) during Kharif-2014 at Agricultural Research Farm, Institute of Agricultural Sciences, Banaras Hindu University, Varanasi. All the 36 F1’s and their parents were grown at Rajiv Gandhi South Campus, Barkachha, Mirzapur during Kharif 2015 under drought stress. Variety APO, Nagina-22, RAU-4, and RASI were the best general combiners for grain yield and other drought-related traits. Most of the crosses have shown the preponderance of non-additive gene effects for all the traits understudied. The ratio of dominance to recessive genes (Kd/Kr) was >1 for all the traits except for plant height, stay green and relative water content, indicating an excess of dominant genes in the parents. Over-dominance was observed for traits viz. no. of effective tillers/plant, test weight, spikelet fertility %, panicle length, harvest index, panicle weight, grain yield/ plant, relative water content, and chlorophyll content. Crosses APO x Sarjoo-52, RAU-4 × SARJOO-52, Nagina-22 × BPT-5204, RASI × MTU-7029, RAU-4 × SARJOO-52, Rajendra Bhagwati × SARJOO-52, BPT-5204 × MTU-7029, Rajendra Bhagwati × RAU-4, RASI × Nagina-22, and Rajendra Bhagwati × BPT-5204 were best specific combiner.
