Impact of GA3 and growing media on seed germination and seedling parameters of Khirni (Manilkara hexandra Roxb.)

Abstract:
An experiment entitled “Effect of GA3 and different growing media on seed germination and seedling growth of khirni (Manilkara hexandra Roxb.)” was carried out at Fruit Research Station, Lalbaug, Junagadh Agricultural University, Junagadh during May to February 2019-20. Sixteen treatment combinations arising from four levels of GA3 (G1 - GA3 100 ppm, G2 - GA3 200 ppm, G3 - GA3 300 ppm and G4 – GA3 400 ppm) and four levels of growing medias (M1 -Soil, M2- Soil+ Cocopeat, M3- Soil + FYM and M4- Soil +Vermicompost) were allocated in completely randomized design with factorial concept in three repetitions. The results showed that the application of treatment G3M3 (Khirni seeds are sowed in Soil + FYM after soaking in GA3 300 ppm for 24 hours) was found better for early germination, highest germination percentage, maximum shoot length, number of leaves, stem diameter, fresh and dry weight of seedling as well as highest leaf area and survival percentage of Khirni seedling.
