Abstract:
The present investigation carried out to assess the combining ability for grain yield and its contributing characters under three different environmental conditions using eight diverse barley parents along with their 28 F1. The mean sum of square due to general combining ability had found to be significant for all the characters showed differential effect of environment on genotypes. The mean sum square due to environments (except flag leaf area) and GCA x Environment () were exhibits significant for all the studies characters except. Significant mean squares due to SCA x ENVs was found significant for days to maturity. The genotypes RD2909, DWR137 and DWR143 had higher grain and were suitable for variable environment conditions. The hybrid RD2904 x DWR143, RD2904 x RD2909 and HUB242 x UPB1059 had higher grain and were suitable for normal environmental conditions. The hybrids HUB 242 x BH959, RD2904 x RD2909 and BH902 x DWR137 were considered suitable for late sowing conditions. The hybrids HUB242 x BH959, UPB1059 x BH959 and BH902 x UPB1059 had higher grain yield and were for very late environment conditions. These genotypes could be utilized as a donor in regular breeding programme to improve grain yield and its contributing characters in barley.
