Abstract:
The Karnataka state is one of the leading producers of mango in the country. The perishability nature of fruits creates need to processing in order to increase their shelf-life. The present study was planned to assess the business performance of mango processing units and it was carried out in two different mango processing units i.e., Sunsip Agro Processors (SAP), Kolar district and M. N. Pickle Industries (MNP), Shivamogga district from Karnataka. SAP procured 50 per cent of raw materials directly from mango growers on an agreement for processing and MNP procured 75 per cent of mango by contract farming, remaining from APMC, FPOs and Vendors. The major constraints faced by the processing units are difficulty in availability of raw material, packaging material, Competition of other processed products with mango products.
