Abstract:
The present investigation entitled studies on “effect on root and yield parameters by optimizing the nitrogen level and adjustment of spacing in lettuce” was carried out 2018 – 2019 in rabi season at Horticulture Research Farm-I of the Department of Horticulture, Babasaheb Bhimrao Ambedkar University Vidya-Vihar Raebareli Road, Lucknow (U.P.), India. The experiment was laid out as a randomized block design (RBD) with four N levels N0 (0 kg/ha), N1 (60 kg/ha), N2 (120 kg/ha) and N3 (180kg/ha) and three different spacing S1 (45 cm × 20 cm), S2 (45 cm × 25 cm) and S3 (45cm ×30 cm) with three replications. In case of nitrogen the highest yield (109.36 g/plant) was recorded from N3 and lowest (90.91 g/plant) from N0. In case of spacing the highest yield (112.18 g/plant) was achieved from S3 and lowest (85.72 g/plant) from S0. For interaction effect, the highest yield (128.55 g/plant) was obtained from N3S3 and lowest (78.80 g/plant) from N0S1. This study showed that for optimal yield parameter of lettuce ought to be grown using nitrogen level 180 kg N ha−1 and spacing 45 cm x 30 cm.
