Abstract:
Brinjal production and productivity is affected due various biotic and abiotic factors. Among the biotic factors Sclerotiona blight (Sclerotinia sclerotiorum) is one of the destructive disease. It causes huge loss in economic yield as well as reduction in the quality of fruit. Among different control measures strategy use of resistant variety is the most promising and environmental friendly method. The present investigation aimed to identify resistance source in brinjal crop, fourty five germplasm of brinjal were obtained from Department of Vegetable Science, College of Horticulture, A.N.D. University of Agriculture and Technology Kumarganj, Ayodhya (U.P). Forty five germplasm of brinjal were screened against sclerotinia blight under natural field condition following 0-4 rating scale, 3 germplasms viz, BRLVAR-3,BRRVAR-1,BRRVAR-15 were found resistance against Sclerotinia blight, however 38 germplasms were found moderately resistance,4 germplasms found moderately susceptible and none of germplasms found susceptible to highly susceptible. The disease range from 0 per cent in BRLVAR-3, BRRVAR-1, BRRVAR-15 to 33.33 per cent in BRLHYB-5 and BRLHYB-7 germplasm respectively. So these resistant germplasm lines can be used in breeding programme to develop resistant variety.
