Impact of Aspergillus Niger on agriculture and industry: A review

Abstract:
Aspergillus Niger is a filamentous ascomycete fungus with septate, hyaline, acute angle branching hypha. Because of its black colored conidia, A. Niger commonly called as black mold. Aspergillus Niger is one of the important fungi having a significant role in global carbon cycle as a soil saprobe. A. Niger has a great impact on various fields such as agriculture and food industry. In agriculture it act as a plant pathogen, bio control agent and plant growth promoting agent. In food industry it plays a key role in the production of organic acids and enzymes. Regarding human health it causes illness. Though A. Niger is a opportunistic pathogen to humans it is regarded as a safe organism.
