Abstract:
The nematicidal effect of organic amendments like neem cake, mustard cake, karanj cake, singly was tested against root-knot nematode, Meloidogyne incognita. Treatments with neem cake caused mortality of M. incognita as 45% and 30% of juveniles after 48 h of exposures, respectively compared to water control. Under pot conditions, all treatments reduced the disease severity and enhanced plant growth compared to untreated control. Application of neem cake, karanj cake, mustard cake was more effective compared to cotton cake. Fresh and dry weight of shoots and roots of plants were significantly reduced as a result of infection with M. incognita, however application of organic amendment singly recovered this reduction. Our results proved that application of different organic amendments has a lethal effect on nematode population in soil under pot condition and helps to reduce the yield losses. Among the evaluated different cakes neem cake was found highly effective and no gall formation was noticed up to 45 days with gall index (0) while cotton cake was least effective.
