Abstract:
The study was undertaken to determine the pharmacokinetics of ceftiofur after single intravenous (i/v) injection in local goat of Assam. An injectible commercial preparation of ceftiofur was injected at the dose rate of 2.2 mg.kg-1 body weight by i/v route in each of six male local goats (Capra hircus) of Assam. The mean peak plasma level of ceftiofur was 23.910 ± 0.728 µg.ml-1 at 2 min which gradually declined to 3.256 ± 0.039 µg.ml-1 at 120 min. The lowest concentration of about 0.073 ± 0.003 µg.ml-1 was observed at 600 min and after that no concentration of drug was detected. The rate of elimination from central compartment (Kel) were ranged between 0.052 to 0.076 (mean 0.060 ± 0.004 min-1). The mean apparent volume of distribution was calculated to be 0.380 ± 0.012 L.kg -1 and Cl B was 5.242 ± 0.220 ml.kg -1.min. The AUC was ranged between 354.585 to 473.097 (mean 422.94 ± 16.617 μg.ml -1.min).
