Abstract:
To design and develop the potato harvester, baseline information about biometric and engineering properties of potato tuber were collected at five different site comprising three varity viz. Kufri Pukhraj Kufri Lauvkar Lady Rosetta. It was found that more than 99% of potato found up to the depth of 20 cm hence maximum depth of operation was taken as 20 cm for blade design. For calculation of mass of potato coming over the machine for design of conveyers, the maximum potato density per meter length was taken as 3079.60 g/m found for LR variety sown with 75 cm row to row spacing. About 94% were found above 30 mm in accordance with thickness of potato, therefore, the rods spacing on conveying system was kept as 30 mm. The angle of rolling friction was varies from 22° to 25.2° for all verities, therefore the angle of inclination of primary conveyer was kept as 200 to avoid rolling of tubers on primary conveyer.
