Author(s):
Deepak Kumar Shrivastava
Abstract:
This study examines the agricultural practices of tribal and non-tribal farmers in the Chhattisgarh plains, focusing on occupational time allocation. Organizational participation, crop type and crop intensity Data was collected from 320 respondents (Tribal and non-tribal farmers) in eight villages of Bilaspur district. The results revealed that majority of tribal farmers (61.87%) and non-tribal farmers (76.25%) devote more than 50% of their working time to agriculture. The majority of respondents were primarily involved in monoculture enterprises. Tribal farmers grow monocultures when compared to non-tribal farmers (65.63%). In addition, the study found a higher incidence (72.50%) and found that tribal (72.50%) and non-tribal farmers (68.75%) show low crop intensity. This indicates limited agricultural diversity. Observed agricultural trends highlight the constraints faced by tribal farmers. Especially in terms of irrigation availability.
